Other Provinces Threaten Punjab: Maryam Nawaz

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Saturday said her province faces a greater security threat from neighboring provinces than from neighboring countries.

Speaking at the e-launch of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Hub in Lahore on Saturday, Maryam said Punjab faced threats including organized crime, ethnic and religious issues and drug trafficking.

She called for stronger coordination among federal and provincial law-enforcement and intelligence agencies to help enhance security measures.

Maryam said Punjab had invested heavily in security technology, including thermal cameras, drones and fortified checkposts in border areas. She said bulletproof cameras and safe rooms had also been installed.

She said the AI Hub would help authorities combine intelligence and identify emerging threats to help prevent incidents.

The chief minister also highlighted security operations near the Punjab-Sindh border. She said cooperation between the Armed Forces and provincial governments had helped establish the writ of the state.

Maryam also claimed that crime in Punjab had fallen by 70 percent since she took office.
