Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Police has launched a Chinese language training program for its personnel to improve communication and security coordination with Chinese engineers and other foreign project staff.
The first batch of 20 Special Security Unit (SSU) personnel has completed the course and has been deployed at various Chinese and foreign-funded projects across the province.
These include the Suki Kinari Hydropower Project, Peshawar Airport, Project Peshawar, RWS Khyber, Rashakai Economic Zone, Tarbela Dam in Swabi, Project Haripur, BHPP Mansehra, Dasu Dam, Bhasha Dam, and SSU Lines Mardan.
Police officials said language barriers had previously created communication difficulties between security personnel and Chinese engineers and foreign staff. The newly trained officers will now be able to communicate directly in Chinese on security-related matters and improve coordination at project sites.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Special Security Unit Syed Ashfaq Anwar said this was the first time SSU personnel in the province had received formal Chinese language training.
He added that a second batch of officers is in the final stage of completing the course.
According to Anwar, the department also plans to introduce training in other foreign languages in the future, as communication with foreign nationals has become an important part of security operations alongside modern technology and professional training.
