The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has demolished four illegally constructed shops near the E-11 Bridge in Islamabad after heavy rainfall caused widespread water accumulation and rainwater entered nearby homes and businesses.
The operation targeted illegal constructions and encroachments around a drainage channel that the CDA said were obstructing the natural flow of rainwater.
CDA teams used heavy machinery to demolish the shops, while personnel from the Islamabad Police and the authority remained present at the site.
The authority said the removal of the structures was aimed at improving drainage and reducing the risk of further water accumulation in the area.
Shopkeepers protested the operation, claiming their belongings were removed and placed on the road. One shopkeeper questioned why action was taken only after the area was flooded, arguing that the CDA should have acted earlier if the shops were illegal.
The operation followed heavy rainfall that caused significant water accumulation in Sector E-11, with water entering houses and commercial areas.
