A potential dengue threat has emerged at the PIMS Hospital Maternal and Child Health (MCH) facility after mosquito larvae and adult mosquitoes were reportedly found in stagnant water inside the premises.
Larvae and mosquitoes could be seen in standing water around the MCH area.
The situation has raised concerns because pregnant women and their attendants regularly wait in the same area while visiting the MCH ward for medical check-ups.
Health officials have also warned that the current weather conditions are highly favorable for the spread of dengue.
Four Dengue Cases Reported in Islamabad This Year
District Entomologist Qasim Sajra said Islamabad has reported four dengue cases so far this year.
Out of these four patients, two are residents of Rawalpindi.
He added that Islamabad recorded 197 dengue cases in August 2025, while 40 cases were reported during the same month in 2024.
Monsoon Keeps Dengue Threat High
According to Sajra, the dengue threat remains present in Islamabad because of the ongoing monsoon season.
Rainwater can collect in open spaces, containers, drains and other areas, creating breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
The reported presence of mosquito larvae inside the PIMS MCH premises has therefore raised fresh concerns about possible dengue transmission among patients, attendants and hospital staff.
