Lahore’s tandoor owners have announced a protest against prolonged gas load shedding, saying the shortage is severely affecting their businesses and increasing operating costs.
The United Naan Roti Association said a major protest will be held on September 15 outside SNGPL’s office, with tandoor owners from across the city expected to participate.
According to the association, the tandoor business is directly dependent on gas, but frequent and prolonged gas outages are making it increasingly difficult for naan and roti shops to continue their operations.
The tandoor owners said they are being forced to use LPG as an alternative fuel whenever gas is unavailable. However, they claimed that LPG is not available at the official rate in the market, forcing them to purchase it at significantly higher prices.
They said the rising cost of LPG has substantially increased their daily operating expenses and made it difficult for tandoor owners to sustain their businesses under the existing naan and roti prices.
The United Naan Roti Association said all major tandoor owners in Lahore will participate in the September 15 protest. It warned that if their demands are not addressed, the association will consider expanding the protest and announce its future course of action.
The association has demanded an immediate solution to the gas load shedding issue, saying uninterrupted gas supply is necessary for tandoors to operate normally.
Tandoor owners also warned that continued gas shortages could affect the supply of naan and roti to citizens across Lahore if the issue is not resolved.
