11 Saudi, Turkish and Pakistani Investors Want to Buy GEPCO
The privatization of Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO) has attracted strong interest from domestic and international investors, with 11 prospective investors submitting Expressions of Interest (EOIs) to acquire between 51 percent and 100 percent of the company along with management control.
The Privatisation Commission received the EOIs on Friday, the closing date for submissions, marking another major step in the government’s plan to privatize electricity distribution companies.
The interested parties include three Turkish companies, one Saudi Arabian company and several leading Pakistani business groups. The Turkish investors are Aktor Elektrik Enerji Yatırımları, Genvera Enerji, and Cengiz Enerji. Saudi Arabia’s Al Sharif Contracting and Commercial Development Company has also expressed interest.
Pakistani investors include Engro Energy, Sapphire Fibers, Hub Power Holdings and Lucky Cement, Shirazi Investments, Artistic Milliners and Fatima Group, K Electric, and a consortium comprising AKD Securities, Fast Cable and Mughal Steel Group.
Muhammad Ali, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Privatisation and Chairman of the Privatisation Commission, said the strong response reflected investor confidence in Pakistan’s electricity distribution sector and the government’s commitment to a transparent and competitive privatization process.
The EOIs and Statements of Qualification submitted by the investors will now be evaluated against the approved prequalification criteria. Qualified investors will move to the next stage and receive access to the Virtual Data Room to conduct detailed due diligence.
GEPCO is one of three distribution companies included in the first batch of the government’s DISCO privatization program, alongside Faisalabad Electric Supply Company and Islamabad Electric Supply Company. The deadline for IESCO EOIs is September 7, 2026, while 12 interested parties had submitted EOIs for FESCO by the August 7 deadline.
