Xiaomi’s HyperOS 4, based on Android 17, brings several system-wide upgrades and new features. Among them, five changes stand out for making the biggest difference to everyday use.
1. Soft Light Glass Brings a Major UI Redesign
HyperOS 4 introduces a new Soft Light Glass effect, bringing dynamic glass refraction, layered cards, and translucent blur effects across the interface.
The design extends to the lock screen, home screen, app icons, Control Centre, folders, and widgets.
Most eligible Xiaomi devices should receive the new effect, but deeper integration will be limited to select devices due to hardware requirements. These include models powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite, Dimensity 9500, Xring O1, or newer flagship chipsets.
2. Super XiaoAi 2.0 Adds Deeper AI Features
The new Super XiaoAi 2.0 assistant runs on Xiaomi’s MiMo V2.5 large language model.
It adds improved long-term memory, cross-app actions, and context-aware screen recognition. A new Expert Mode can handle multi-step commands, including checking calendars to plan trips.
It can also generate research reports, PowerPoint presentations, websites and videos from a single prompt.
HyperOS 4 also adds the Inspiration Ball, which analyzes on-screen content and suggests actions such as opening maps, creating calendar entries or finding shopping links.
Apps including Recorder and AI Voice Notes also gain AI-powered summaries, key-point extraction and task generation.
3. Faster Performance
Xiaomi says HyperOS 4 uses AI-based memory preloading to improve performance.
The company claims 27.2% more available memory and 17% faster app launches after extended use.
The updated HyperCore engine also reduces redundant CPU instructions by around 14.4% compared with HyperOS 3.
Gallery scrolling is claimed to be up to 90% smoother, while Camera startup is 200ms faster. HDR photo processing has also dropped from 310ms to 240ms.
4. Redesigned Lock Screen
HyperOS 4 adds more flexible clock customization, allowing users to resize, stretch, and reposition clock layouts.
Notifications now appear in vertically stacked groups instead of separate cards.
The lock screen also supports spatial depth effects that can place subjects in front of clocks, dates and other interface elements.
5. Dual-Phone Syncing
The new Dual-Phone Syncing feature lets two Xiaomi, Redmi or POCO phones share incoming calls and SMS verification codes in real time.
The devices do not need to share Bluetooth or Wi-Fi because syncing works over the internet.
Both devices must use the same Xiaomi account. The receiving phone must run HyperOS 4, while the sending phone can remain on HyperOS 3.
Dual-Phone Syncing is currently available only in China, although it could expand to other regions later.
