The government has increased the price of high-speed diesel by Rs. 1.39 per liter from August 12, with the increase driven by a higher petroleum levy despite a slight decline in the ex-refinery price.
The price of high speed diesel has risen to Rs. 382.25 per liter from Rs. 380.86 per liter previously.
The ex-refinery price fell by Rs. 0.61 per liter to Rs. 279.83 per liter from Rs. 280.44 per liter. However, the decline was more than offset by a Rs. 2 per liter increase in the petroleum levy.
The petroleum levy on diesel has increased to Rs. 76.28 per liter from Rs. 74.28 per liter. All other components of the diesel price remained unchanged.
The dealer margin remains at Rs. 8.64 per liter, while the oil marketing company margin is unchanged at Rs. 7.87 per liter. The inland freight equalization margin also remains at Rs. 4.63 per liter.
The latest increase takes the diesel price around 40 percent higher than the Rs. 272.99 per liter recorded on August 16, 2025.
