Pakistan has launched a Rs10 billion project to install modern air traffic management systems at Karachi and Lahore airports, sources said on Thursday.
Under the project, state-of-the-art air traffic management and voice communication systems will be installed at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi and Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore.
The air traffic control centres at both airports will also be upgraded to meet modern requirements.
Sources said the technical bid opening process for the installation has already been completed. The financial bids of companies cleared in the technical evaluation will be opened in the next phase.
The project also includes the installation of a voice communication and control system alongside the new air traffic management system at both airports.
The upgrade is part of the Pakistan Airports Authority’s wider efforts to modernise the country’s air traffic management infrastructure.
