The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) blocked more than 1.54 million online URLs across digital platforms through July 2026, with YouTube recording the highest blocking rate among major social media platforms, according to the regulator’s latest platform-wise content moderation data.
The PTA processed 1,726,303 URLs, of which 1,542,800 were blocked, 76,874 remain under review, and 106,629 were rejected, resulting in an overall blocking rate of 89.37 percent.
Facebook accounted for the largest number of processed URLs among major social media platforms, with 287,362 cases. The regulator blocked 230,270 URLs, while 20,321 remain under review and 36,771 were rejected, resulting in a blocking rate of 80.13 percent. TikTok ranked second with 195,625 processed URLs. The PTA blocked 170,231 URLs, kept 14,094 under review, and rejected 11,300 requests, resulting in a blocking rate of 87.02 percent.
The authority processed 143,670 URLs related to X, formerly Twitter, blocking 74,236 while keeping 28,359 under review and rejecting 41,075 requests. The platform recorded the lowest blocking rate among the major social media platforms at 51.67 percent.
Among the leading platforms, YouTube recorded the highest blocking rate, with the PTA blocking 66,290 of 74,823 processed URLs, or 88.60 percent. Instagram recorded 54,335 processed URLs, of which 45,510 were blocked, representing a blocking rate of 83.76 percent.
Among messaging and video sharing platforms, WhatsApp recorded 55,414 processed URLs, with 50,165 blocked, 2,908 under review, and 2,341 rejected, resulting in a blocking rate of 90.53 percent. SnackVideo recorded 8,329 processed URLs, while 7,225 were blocked. Bigo and Likee together recorded 6,730 processed URLs, of which 6,539 were blocked.
The Others/Miscellaneous category accounted for the highest overall volume, with 899,415 processed URLs. The PTA blocked 891,772 of those URLs, resulting in a 99.15 percent blocking rate.
