Xbox Clarifies GTA 6 Will Not Stream to PC at Launch

Xbox Chief Strategy Officer Matthew Ball has clarified that GTA 6 will not stream to PC at launch, correcting earlier reports that suggested Xbox had secured exclusive cloud streaming rights for the game.

Ball said the excitement around GTA 6 and Xbox had led to some inaccurate reporting. He confirmed that GTA 6 is expected to launch on Xbox on November 19, but said the game will not be available through exclusive streaming or as a way to play it on PC.

Earlier Report Suggested Xbox Had Exclusive Streaming Rights

The clarification followed a report claiming that Xbox would be the exclusive platform for cloud streaming GTA 6 at launch.

Because Xbox Cloud Gaming works across PCs, smart TVs, mobile devices and other hardware, the report suggested PC users might be able to play GTA 6 through the cloud even before Rockstar releases a native PC version.

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma had also reportedly told employees during a company town hall that Microsoft was planning something around GTA 6 that no other platform holder was doing.

However, Ball’s statement rules out the idea that GTA 6 will stream to PC at launch.

Launch Still Set for November

The previously reported cloud deal was said to begin alongside GTA 6’s November release, although its duration was unclear.

Microsoft is also expected to introduce pay-as-you-go cloud gaming plans in November, which had added to speculation that users without consoles could potentially pay for timed access to GTA 6 through streaming.

That scenario now appears unlikely for launch, based on Ball’s clarification.

Xbox and PlayStation Are Both Competing Around GTA 6

The report also comes as Xbox and PlayStation continue competing around GTA 6.

Xbox has previously denied reports that it was concerned about GTA 6 pre-order numbers, with Ball saying the game was performing in line with Xbox’s share of the console market.

PlayStation, meanwhile, has secured marketing rights for GTA 6, including limited-edition controllers and promotional material showing footage captured on PS5 hardware.

Rockstar has also promoted the PS5 version with messaging saying the game will “play best” on PS5.

For now, GTA 6 remains scheduled to launch on consoles on November 19, while a PC version has not been announced for release at the same time.
