WhatsApp is working on another redesign of its Android app, with the latest changes focused on the bottom navigation bar.
The redesign was spotted in WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.26.38.10, but the feature is still under development and is not yet available to regular beta testers.
A More Rounded, Floating Design
The new navigation bar sits separately from the main interface instead of remaining attached to the bottom edge of the screen.
It also has more rounded corners and a floating appearance, bringing it visually closer to the tab bar already used in WhatsApp for iOS.
However, WhatsApp is not copying Apple’s Liquid Glass design completely. The Android version is expected to follow its own design language and use less transparency than the iOS implementation.
WhatsApp is testing the redesigned bar in both light and dark themes. The visual changes are currently more noticeable in the light version.
Meta AI Could Move Into the Main Navigation
The early interface also suggests that Meta AI may receive a dedicated position inside the bottom navigation bar instead of remaining only as a floating shortcut.
WhatsApp has already experimented with a dedicated Meta AI tab on Android. Earlier beta versions placed Meta AI directly in the navigation bar as a central hub for AI-powered features.
The company has also tested several different navigation layouts in recent months, including a new Contacts tab and changes to the placement of Communities, Updates and Meta AI.
Because of that, the current layout should not be treated as final.
Screenshots of the latest build even show Meta AI appearing in more than one location, suggesting WhatsApp is still deciding how the feature will fit into the finished interface.
WhatsApp has not announced a public release date. Since the redesign remains in active development, further changes are likely before it reaches users.
