WhatsApp is rolling out a new update that makes sharing photos and videos faster by suggesting recently saved media directly inside chats.
The new feature, called Recent Media Suggestions, allows users to access their latest photos and videos without opening the gallery or searching for files manually.
It is gradually becoming available to Android and iPhone users running the latest version of WhatsApp.
Faster Photo Sharing Directly From Chats
With the new update, WhatsApp can automatically display a user’s most recent photo or video when they open a conversation.
The feature appears in two different forms, although each user will only see one.
In the first version, a small notification appears above the message bar, showing a thumbnail of the latest gallery item and offering an option to share it.
In the second version, WhatsApp temporarily replaces the camera icon beside the message bar with a thumbnail of the most recently saved photo or video.
Both options allow users to access recent media with fewer steps. Users can also ignore the suggestion and continue chatting normally, while the notification includes a close button.
Photos Won’t Be Sent Automatically
Tapping a suggested photo or video does not send it immediately.
Instead, WhatsApp opens its media editor, where users can review the file, add a caption, insert stickers, or make other edits before sharing it.
Users can also close the editor without sending anything, helping prevent accidental sharing.
The feature works with any recently saved gallery item, including camera photos, screenshots, downloaded images, and videos saved from other applications.
WhatsApp does not filter suggestions based on the file’s source or type. It simply selects the most recent item.
How to Turn Off Recent Media Suggestions
The feature activates automatically when it becomes available for an account.
Users who prefer not to see photo and video suggestions can disable it by opening WhatsApp Settings > Chats > Recent media suggestions and turning off the option.
WhatsApp is rolling out the update gradually to Android and iOS users. More accounts are expected to receive it over the coming weeks, although the company has not announced when the rollout will be completed.
