WhatsApp Launches New Events Hub
WhatsApp is rolling out a new Events hub that gives users one place to create, review, and manage their events.
The feature is currently available to some beta testers on WhatsApp beta for Android 2.26.36.5 and appears as a new option inside the app’s settings menu.
All Events in One Place
Previously, users had to open individual chats or groups to find events they had created or joined.
The new Events hub brings these into a single page. It shows events created by the user as well as invitations they have received.
WhatsApp is also highlighting the new section with a badge in settings to make it easier to find.
Create Events Directly From Settings
Users can create a new event by opening the hub and selecting Create event.
They can add an event name, optional description, start and end times, location, and a WhatsApp call link.
WhatsApp also allows users to set reminders, with the default reminder scheduled for one hour before the event.
Other options include allowing guests to bring another person and adding a cover photo to the event page.
Users can still create events directly from individual chats and groups.
Invite People Who Do Not Use WhatsApp
One of the more notable additions is support for guests who do not have a WhatsApp account.
When an event is created, WhatsApp can generate a shareable invitation link. Anyone with the link can view basic information, including the event name, date, and time.
Guests without WhatsApp can respond by entering their name and verifying their phone number.
The full location and call link are only shown after they confirm attendance.
Event Privacy
WhatsApp says the event name, date, time, location, cover photo, and guest list can be visible to guests and WhatsApp.
Hosts can see each guest’s name, response, and phone number.
Confirmed attendees can also see the names and responses of other guests, while phone numbers remain visible only when the person is already saved as a contact.
Personal WhatsApp messages and calls remain protected by end-to-end encryption.
Gradual Rollout
The Events hub is currently limited to some Android beta users.
WhatsApp is rolling out the feature gradually, so installing the latest beta does not guarantee immediate access.
The company has not yet announced when the Events hub will become available to all users.
