WhatsApp is working on a new collection of chat themes that will give users more options to customize the appearance of their conversations.
The upcoming expansion will divide themes into three categories, including one specifically for animated wallpapers. The feature is still under development, so it may not yet be available to beta testers and could roll out gradually in future updates.
New Chat Themes With Animated Wallpapers
WhatsApp is testing the new chat theme system on Android with three categories: Featured, Doodle and Minimal.
The Featured category will include themes with animated wallpapers. Doodle themes will use WhatsApp’s familiar official doodle backgrounds, while the Minimal category will provide simpler light or dark designs.
WhatsApp will automatically adjust chat bubble colors to match the selected theme.
More Control Over WhatsApp Updates on Mac
WhatsApp is introducing update controls for beta testers using its Mac app.
Users can choose between the latest version and a stable weekly build. The latest version provides the newest features as soon as possible but may contain occasional bugs. The stable weekly option is designed to offer a more reliable experience.
New Channel Notification and AI Tools
WhatsApp currently mutes newly followed channels by default. The company is introducing an alert on iOS that informs users about this behavior and gives them the option to enable notifications for new channel updates.
WhatsApp is also developing an AI-content label for Channels. In a future update, channel administrators will be able to manually mark updates as AI-generated, helping users identify AI-generated content. The feature could also help users comply with regional rules requiring AI-generated material to be disclosed.
Parental Controls Get a Dedicated Section
WhatsApp introduced parental controls in March, allowing parents to manage a child’s account while keeping message content private.
The company is now working on a dedicated parental controls section within WhatsApp settings. Parents will be able to use this area to set up the feature and link their account with their child’s account.
Some of these features remain under development and may not be immediately available to all users or beta testers. WhatsApp is expected to make them available gradually through future updates.
