A policeman was injured on Sunday when a recently built wall, installed for an inaugural plaque at a road upgradation project in Peshawar, collapsed during a ceremony attended by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi.
Officials said police deployed the officer for security at the event, where the chief minister was also present. A police official said the wall collapsed because of the crowd, and the injured officer was shifted to hospital.
The chief minister later left the venue after addressing the inauguration ceremony for road projects under the Rs200 billion Peshawar Revitalisation Plan. He also attended the groundbreaking ceremony of the Pishtakhara Chowk Underpass.
The incident comes amid recurring reports of roof and wall collapses in Pakistan, often linked to weak safety standards and substandard construction material. Last month, a woman died in a roof collapse in Peshawar’s Naguman area during heavy rain, while strong winds and rain in July injured at least eight people in similar incidents.
