Vivo S Series Returns After Seven Years With Flagship Grade Durability

Vivo has introduced the Vivo S2, bringing back its S-series smartphone lineup after a seven-year break. The company had not released another S-series model following the Vivo S1, which arrived in August 2019.

Vivo positions the new phone for younger users interested in style, creativity, intelligent features and practical innovation. It combines a premium design with advanced cameras and several durability features.

Design and Display

The Vivo S2 features a 6.83-inch 3D-curved AMOLED display with a resolution of 2,800 × 1,260 pixels. It supports a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness.

The screen includes an embedded fingerprint scanner and a centered punch-hole camera. Users can also operate the display with wet or greasy hands.

The handset carries MIL-STD-810H certification and IP68 and IP69 ratings for dust and water resistance. It also supports underwater photography.

Vivo offers it in Sapphire Blue, Regal Bronze and Silk White. The first two versions measure 7.99mm thick and weigh 197 grams. The Silk White model is slightly thicker at 8.10mm and weighs 199 grams.

Internals and Software

MediaTek’s Dimensity 7360-Turbo chipset powers the Vivo S2. It comes with 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and either 128GB or 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage.

The phone runs OriginOS 6 based on Android 16. Vivo has promised three major Android upgrades and five years of security updates.

It also supports gameplay at up to 90 frames per second in compatible titles. Other features include dual stereo speakers, a 3,800mm² vapor chamber and a USB-C port.

Cameras

The rear camera module has a horizontal design and includes a 50MP Sony IMX582 primary camera with optical image stabilization.

Vivo has paired it with a 2MP bokeh sensor and a circular Aura Light flash.

A 32MP front camera handles selfies and video calls. It also supports recording videos at up to 4K resolution.

Battery and Pricing

The Vivo S2 packs a 7,050mAh battery with 44W fast charging and bypass charging support.

The 8GB/128GB version is priced at around $420, while the 8GB/256GB model costs about $480. Sales begin on August 11 through Vivo’s website and partner retailers.
