US war journalist Caitlin Doornbos has called out the misleading use of an old video of Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s UN speech, which has been widely circulated by Indian social media accounts to push a false narrative about Pakistan and terrorism.
Doornbos identified the viral clip as footage from September 2025, rather than from Sharif’s upcoming address to the United Nations General Assembly on September 25, 2026.
The clip has been circulated with claims that Sharif referred to terrorists as “our terrorists.” However, Doornbos pointed out that Sharif actually said “terrorists we encountered,” changing the meaning of the statement being shared online.
The original remarks referred to Pakistan’s counterterrorism efforts and its role in preventing threats from reaching countries including the United States and the United Kingdom.
This* is from 2025, but messaging seems meant for President Trump’s ears. He speaks often about other countries taking on problems before they wash up on US shores.

The journalist’s clarification comes as Indian accounts continue to recirculate the old footage and use the altered wording to portray Pakistan as claiming terrorist groups as its own.
Doornbos also noted that the message appears at odds with US President Donald Trump’s repeated emphasis on countries taking responsibility for addressing security threats within their own regions.
Sharif is scheduled to deliver Pakistan’s address at the 81st UN General Assembly session on September 25, 2026.
