The University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Peshawar has completed the first phase of the Higher Education Commission’s (HEC) Mentoring Program for Universities (MPU), with 23 mentors and mentees participating in the inaugural cohort.
The three-month program was designed to promote professional development, knowledge-sharing and mentoring among university faculty and administrative staff.
The MPU is a national initiative of the National Academy of Higher Education (NAHE), an HEC institution, aimed at strengthening leadership, collaborative learning and human-resource development in higher education institutions.
A closing ceremony was held at UET Peshawar and attended by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Sadiq Khattak, Dean Prof. Dr. Rizwan Gul, members of the Mentorship Program Committee, faculty members, mentors, mentees and university officials.
Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Sadiq Khattak appreciated the HEC and NAHE for supporting the mentoring program across Pakistan. He said initiatives such as the MPU give faculty members opportunities to share experience, improve professional skills and build stronger academic networks.
Prof. Dr. Rizwan Gul said the first phase helped establish a formal mentoring culture at UET Peshawar and encouraged knowledge-sharing between departments and institutions.
He added that the experience would help the university expand mentoring opportunities to peer-to-peer and student-focused initiatives in future phases.
According to the university, the mentoring sessions covered several areas, including academic leadership and governance, professional ethics, workplace effectiveness, digital and artificial intelligence tools, and career development and promotion pathways.
Dr. Shamaila Farooq, focal person for the MPU at UET Peshawar, said the program also focused on gender inclusion and equitable participation.
Female staff members were given key responsibilities in program coordination and governance, while female faculty and administrative professionals from the University of the Punjab, Punjab Higher Education Department and Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan, participated as mentors and mentees.
The university said the first cohort has provided a foundation for greater participation in the program during its next phase.
At the end of the ceremony, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Sadiq Khattak distributed certificates among the participating mentors and mentees in recognition of their contribution and participation in Phase-I.
