Dubai ruler and UAE Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum was confronted by a Sudanese man while walking through central London, with the incident drawing comparisons to the public harassment faced by former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the UK.
A video circulating on social media shows the Sudanese man confronting Mohammed bin Rashid and his entourage in the affluent Knightsbridge area over the UAE’s alleged involvement in the ongoing Sudan conflict.
“Emiratis and UAE, they’re killing Sudanese people,” the man can be heard shouting. “UAE is killing people in my country. Stop killing my people.”
A member of Al Maktoum’s entourage then appears to respond with racial abuse before crossing the road to confront the protester. The exchange continued as the Sudanese man repeated his allegations about the UAE’s role in the conflict.

The incident has drawn comparisons with the treatment Nawaz Sharif and his family faced in London in 2018. At the time, protesters gathered outside the Sharif family’s Avenfield residence, hurled abuse and attempted to break into the property. British police also investigated the incident.
UAE’s Role in Sudan War
The confrontation comes amid continued controversy over the UAE’s alleged support for Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which has been accused of committing atrocities during the country’s ongoing war.
The UAE has repeatedly denied supporting the RSF. However, UN experts, rights groups and other investigations have reported evidence linking the UAE to arms transfers and support networks associated with the paramilitary group.
The Sudan conflict began in April 2023 and has created one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises.
Mohammed bin Rashid has also faced controversy in the UK in the past. British courts previously found that he had ordered the abduction of his daughters, Princesses Latifa and Shamsa, and that his former wife, Princess Haya, had been subjected to a campaign of harassment.
A British High Court judge also ruled in 2021 that phones belonging to Haya and several associates had been hacked using Pegasus spyware.
