All Pakistan Anjuman-e-Tajiran President Ajmal Baloch has criticized the government’s policies and warned that traders could shut down Islamabad and march toward the Prime Minister’s House if their demands are not addressed.
Baloch said there was no proper planning in the country and that the government was relying on force to deal with problems.
He claimed that traders and the public had faced severe difficulties over the past four years and alleged that 120 million people had fallen below the poverty line during this period.
“I have never seen traders treated this way in my 28 years of experience,” Baloch said, adding that the difficulties faced during the coronavirus pandemic were not as severe as those being experienced now.
He also criticized the enforcement of restrictions on shopping bags, claiming that more than 100 cases were being registered against traders in a single day over the issue.
Baloch said that if shopping bags were to be banned, factories producing them should also be shut down and an alternative provided to traders.
Trader leaders announced that they would begin protests if their demands were not accepted. They warned that Islamabad could be completely shut down and that traders could march toward the Prime Minister’s House.
The traders said their final course of action, including a possible shutdown, would be announced after a protest at Aabpara Chowk on Thursday.
