Honor has launched the Honor X5ds, a budget smartphone that stands out with a 2.01-inch secondary display on the back.
The company is bringing rear displays to cheaper phones instead of limiting the feature to premium models. The X5ds follows the Honor Play 20A, while the upcoming Honor 700 series is also expected to feature a rear display.
Design and Display
The Honor X5ds has a 2.01-inch rear LCD with a resolution of 240 × 296 pixels. The smaller screen can show call alerts, control media playback, and let users take selfies with the rear camera using a one-tap feature.
The main screen is a 6.78-inch LCD with a resolution of 720 × 1576 pixels, up to a 120Hz refresh rate and 600 nits of typical brightness.
The phone measures 168.3 × 78.5 × 8.72mm, weighs around 214g, and carries an IP52 rating for basic dust and splash resistance. The phone comes in Forest Green and Midnight Black.
Internals and Software
The X5ds is powered by the Unisoc T610 chipset. Its octa-core CPU includes two Cortex-A75 cores and six Cortex-A55 cores, all clocked at up to 1.8GHz.
The phone comes with 4GB of RAM, along with another 4GB of virtual memory, and 64GB of internal storage.
A dedicated three-card slot supports storage expansion of up to 1TB. The device runs Android 16 Go edition and includes a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.
Connectivity options include 4G LTE, dual nano-SIM, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, USB-C, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Cameras
The Honor X5ds has a 50MP rear camera with an f/1.8 aperture, 4x digital zoom, and a single LED flash. The rear camera can record video at up to 1080p.
On the front, there is a 5MP selfie camera, which also supports 1080p video recording.
Battery and Pricing
The Honor X5ds packs a 6,000mAh battery with support for 15W wired charging.
The 4GB/64GB model costs approximately $150. Honor has not announced wider availability yet.
