These Galaxy Phones Are Nearing the End of the Road

Samsung now offers some of the longest software support in the Android market, with newer flagship Galaxy devices receiving up to seven years of updates. Recent mid-range models can also receive up to six generations of Android and One UI upgrades alongside long-term security support.

However, older Galaxy phones launched between 2021 and 2023 are now approaching the end of their promised support periods.

These Galaxy Phones Are Nearing End of Support

Samsung does not publish a single official list showing the exact end-of-support date for every phone. The dates below are therefore based on each device’s original launch date and Samsung’s update policy at the time.

Device Android Updates End Security Updates End
Galaxy Z Fold3 Ended in 2025 2026
Galaxy Z Flip3 Ended in 2025 2026
Galaxy S21 FE 5G Ended in 2026 2027
Galaxy S22 Ended in 2026 2027
Galaxy S22+ Ended in 2026 2027
Galaxy S22 Ultra Ended in 2026 2027
Galaxy A53 5G Ended in 2026 2027
Galaxy A14 Ended in 2025 2027
Galaxy Z Fold4 2026 2027
Galaxy Z Flip4 2026 2027
Galaxy S23 2027 2028
Galaxy S23+ 2027 2028
Galaxy S23 Ultra 2027 2028
Galaxy A54 5G 2027 2028

The Galaxy Z Fold3 and Z Flip3 are particularly close to the end. Samsung’s current security-update list has already moved both devices to quarterly updates, meaning they receive security patches less frequently than newer models.

The Galaxy S22 series and S21 FE are also currently on Samsung’s quarterly security schedule. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Fold4, Z Flip4, and S23 series remain on the monthly update list as of August 2026.

What Happens When Updates Stop?

A Galaxy phone does not suddenly stop working when software support ends.

Users can continue making calls, installing apps, and using the device normally. However, the phone will no longer receive new Android or One UI versions once major OS support ends.

More importantly, once security support finishes, Samsung will no longer regularly provide patches for newly discovered security vulnerabilities.

Samsung originally promised devices such as the Galaxy S22 series, S21 FE, Z Fold3, and Z Flip3 four generations of Android/One UI upgrades and up to five years of security updates.

Samsung can occasionally release an update after a device’s regular support period ends, so these dates should be treated as expected support cutoffs rather than guaranteed final update dates.
