The Truth Behind Trump’s $749 Smartphone

The Trump Mobile T1 smartphone has undergone a new teardown test, revealing that its internal hardware is almost identical to the HTC U24 Pro, a smartphone released in 2024.

Popular YouTuber Zack Nelson, who runs the JerryRigEverything channel, took apart the device and found that the two phones share nearly the same internal design and components.

The similarities are so extensive that their motherboards can be swapped without preventing either phone from working.

The discovery comes as the Trump Mobile T1’s price has increased from its originally announced $499 to $749.

Trump Phone Shares Hardware With Older HTC

The Trump Mobile T1 was first announced in June 2025 and became available in 2026 after several changes to its design and specifications.

Despite its higher price, the phone uses hardware similar to the HTC U24 Pro, which launched two years earlier.

The Trump Mobile T1 features a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 processor.

It also comes with 512GB of internal storage and a 5,000mAh battery.

For photography, the phone includes a 50MP main camera, an 8MP ultrawide camera, and a 50MP telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom.

A 50MP front-facing camera handles selfies and video calls.

These specifications closely match those of the HTC U24 Pro.

Teardown Confirms Interchangeable Motherboards

During the teardown, Nelson removed the Trump Mobile T1’s back panel and examined its internal components.

He found that the arrangement of the motherboard, cameras, cooling system, and other parts closely matched the HTC U24 Pro.

To test how similar the devices were, he swapped their motherboards.

Both smartphones continued working after the exchange, demonstrating that they share a compatible internal design.

An earlier investigation by repair website iFixit had reached similar conclusions.

That teardown also found some minor differences between the devices, including their batteries and certain internal components.

The Trump Mobile T1 uses a larger 5,000mAh battery compared with the HTC U24 Pro’s 4,600mAh unit. However, the T1 supports slower 30W charging.

Trump Phone Survives Durability Test

Nelson also subjected the Trump Mobile T1 to his usual durability tests.

The smartphone’s display developed scratches at level six on the Mohs hardness scale, with deeper marks appearing at level seven.

However, the device survived the bend test without breaking.

The teardown also highlighted the phone’s gold-colored back and frame, which distinguish it visually from the HTC U24 Pro.

Another unusual detail was the American flag design on the rear panel, which appears to have 11 stripes instead of the usual 13.

Price Increased From $499 to $749

When Trump Mobile originally announced the T1 in June 2025, the smartphone was advertised at $499.

However, its price has since increased to $749, despite retaining specifications similar to a mid-range smartphone released in 2024.

The latest teardown confirms that the T1 shares much of its hardware with the HTC U24 Pro, rather than featuring an entirely new internal design.

Although the Trump Mobile T1 performed well in the physical durability test, its close resemblance to the older HTC model has raised further questions about its pricing and hardware originality.
