Siri Paye Seized From Pakistani Passengers at Canada Airport

Canadian border officials have seized more than 16 kilograms of undeclared food and animal products, including goat trotters (siri paye), ghee and chicken, from Pakistani passengers arriving at Toronto Pearson International Airport.

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) said the passengers failed to declare the items upon arrival. Authorities imposed a fine of CAD 1,350 for the violation. Seized items included siri paye, chicken meat, ghee and milk powder.

The CBSA enforces regulations governing the entry of food, plants, animals and related products into Canada in cooperation with other government agencies.

The CBSA website lists several food and agricultural products that travelers may not bring into Canada from abroad.

These include raw or cooked meat, fruits, vegetables and milk. The restrictions also cover certain homemade products, plant- or wood-based items, household plants, live animals, including pets, and bait used for fishing.

Other restricted items include firewood, plant cuttings, seeds and dirty hiking footwear.

However, some products may enter Canada if travelers provide specific documents or complete the required registration procedures.

The CBSA advises travelers carrying food, plant or animal products to consult the Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s Automated Import Reference System (AIRS) before crossing the border.
