The Sindh government has upgraded 278 anti-rabies centers across the province to improve treatment for dog-bite patients and strengthen rabies prevention efforts.
Sindh Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah said the upgraded centers have been equipped with rabies vaccines, wound-washing facilities, and trained medical staff to ensure timely treatment.
Speaking on the occasion of World Rabies Day, he urged people to seek immediate medical care after a dog bite or scratch, warning that even minor wounds should not be ignored.
He advised anyone bitten or scratched by a dog to wash the affected area with soap and water for at least 15 minutes before visiting the nearest health facility for treatment and vaccination.
The chief secretary warned that rabies can be fatal once symptoms appear, making timely treatment essential.
According to a spokesperson for the chief secretary, Sindh’s capacity to treat dog-bite patients has increased by nearly 30 percent compared with the first eight months of the previous year.
Health facilities across the province have treated approximately 45,000 patients and administered around 138,000 doses of rabies vaccine. Nearly 5,000 doses of rabies immunoglobulin have also been administered where required.
Shah said public awareness, prompt medical treatment after a bite, and vaccination of dogs are all necessary to prevent rabies.
