Sindh Provides Education to Nearly 100,000 Out-of-School Children

Around 100,000 out-of-school children have gained access to education through Sindh’s non-formal education program since its launch in April 2025, Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah said.

Speaking at a tablet distribution ceremony in Karachi, Shah said the children were being served through 1,880 non-formal education centers across six districts.

The program reaches children unable to attend conventional schools, with particular attention to girls, disadvantaged communities and those facing barriers to accessing classrooms. Shah said local communities were helping the department bring educational opportunities closer to these children.

At the ceremony, organized by the Directorate of Literacy and Non-Formal Education, 1,000 digital tablets were distributed among facilitators.

Shah said the devices would strengthen 1,000 centers by supporting communication, attendance monitoring and educational activities, including teaching support for children in remote areas.

JICA Pakistan’s chief adviser for Education and Literacy, Chiho Ohashi, said the tablets would improve access to teaching materials and help facilitators deliver more interactive lessons. They would also support online training and professional development.

Director NFE Abdul Jabbar Mari said the program’s management information system would enable timely entry and updating of student and center records, improving monitoring and administration.
