Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has approved the establishment of a modern Special Security Unit headquarters and security training academy in Chowkandi for Rs 9.497 billion.
Chairing a meeting on the comprehensive police security complex project, the chief minister directed authorities to launch the first phase of the SSU Academy during the current financial year.
Officials said the academy will be built on around 29.43 acres, with Rs 4.483 billion allocated for its first phase.
The proposed facility will have training capacity for more than 3,000 male and 300 female personnel. It will include firing ranges, a tactical training complex, simulation rooms, K-9 training facilities and a SWAT obstacle course.
The academy will also feature academic, administrative and residential blocks, auditoriums, research and development facilities, libraries, computer laboratories, a swimming pool, gymnasium, sports complex and medical centre.
According to the briefing, the project will also include a CCTV command centre, watchtowers and blast-resistant security walls. Dining halls with space for 1,000 people at a time will also be constructed.
Murad Ali Shah said modern, professional and technology-equipped police forces are essential to meet future security challenges and ensure citizen safety.
He described the project as an investment in Sindh’s long-term security system and directed the Finance and Planning departments to complete the technical and financial assessment at the earliest.
