Sindh Announces Immediate Closure of Schools in Unsafe Buildings

The Sindh government has announced a zero-tolerance policy against private schools operating out of dangerous and deteriorating buildings, signalling a major push to protect students and staff.

The province’s education department has ordered that all educational activities in hazardous buildings be stopped immediately, and has directed a comprehensive inspection of private school premises within 15 days.

School managements have been told to relocate children to safer alternative locations, with a clear warning that the presence of students, teachers, or other staff inside unsafe structures will not be permitted.

As part of the planned survey, inspectors will examine school buildings and flag those that are dangerous or partially damaged. The department has also instructed school associations to enforce building safety standards without delay.

Authorities have decided to review the registration of private schools running in dilapidated buildings. Schools found operating in dangerous premises could face legal action, including possible closure.

Unregistered educational institutions will also be identified and dealt with under the law.

Officials have been asked to submit a report within 15 days detailing the inspection findings, including the number of affected students and the condition of the premises concerned.
