The Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) has helped resolve long-standing issues surrounding the Barite Lead Zinc Project in Khuzdar, paving the way for a strategic investment of $200 million and advancing one of Pakistan’s largest mineral development projects.
The project has remained on the SIFC’s agenda since December 2023 and is being developed by Pakistan Petroleum Limited in a joint venture with Bolan Mining Enterprises. Pakistan Petroleum Limited is the project’s designated operator and holds a 50 percent working interest.
Located in the mineral-rich district of Khuzdar in Balochistan, the project is estimated to contain reserves of 69 million tons and is expected to operate for 34 years.
According to official estimates, the mine could generate annual revenues of between USD 150 million and USD 230 million while supporting mineral exports, creating jobs, and contributing to economic development in the province.
The SIFC said it facilitated the resolution of long pending mining lease issues, allowing the project to move into the implementation stage. A key milestone was reached when the Operational Agreement was signed during the Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum 2025.
The government said the project’s progress reflects its efforts to improve the investment climate by removing regulatory hurdles, facilitating strategic investments, and accelerating the responsible development of Pakistan’s mineral resources.
