Karachi’s Papri Pumping Station remained without electricity for more than 12 hours after cable theft from the K-Electric system disrupted power supply, the Water Corporation spokesperson said on Friday.
The spokesperson said the outage began at 9:40 am and power had still not been restored despite the passage of 12 hours.
Officials warned that the disruption could affect the supply of around 145 million gallons of water in the city.
Areas that may face a shortage include Landhi, Korangi, Malir and Ibrahim Hyderi. Shah Faisal Colony, PNS Mehran, PAF Base Faisal, Karsaz, DHA and Qayyumabad could also be impacted.
According to K-Electric, the power supply to the pumping station was affected after a cable was stolen.
Water Corporation officials remain in contact with K-Electric to restore electricity at the earliest.
The spokesperson said the water supply will return to normal once power is restored.
