The State Bank of Pakistan is working to build a trusted and accountable digital financial ecosystem by strengthening regulation, expanding access and encouraging digital financial services that contribute to economic activity, Deputy Governor Muhammad Ali Khan said on Wednesday.
“At the State Bank of Pakistan, our focus is not only on expanding digital access, but on building trust, strengthening regulation and accountability, and enabling digital financial services to translate into meaningful economic activity,” Ali said while speaking as chief guest at the fourth Pakistan Fintech Forum in Karachi.
The forum, hosted by the Pakistan Fintech Network under the theme “Building the Financial Future: Scale, Trust & Inclusion,” brought together policymakers and industry representatives to discuss the next phase of Pakistan’s digital financial sector.
Discussions covered digital banking, access to credit, digital payments, financial inclusion, regulation, digital infrastructure and emerging technologies. Participants also examined how technology, financial data and stronger infrastructure could expand access to financial services while improving consumer trust.
Pakistan Fintech Network Chairman Syed Nadeem Hussain said the country’s fintech sector had moved beyond simply increasing digital adoption, with the focus now shifting toward building an ecosystem capable of scaling responsibly and supporting inclusive growth.
He called for greater regulatory clarity, resilient infrastructure and stronger cooperation between banks and fintech companies, particularly to expand access to credit and provide financial services to customers at scale.
The event was attended by senior representatives from the State Bank, Pakistan Digital Authority, Pakistan Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority and Raast Payments Pakistan, as well as executives from the banking, fintech, payments, technology and investment sectors.
Speakers included SECP Commissioner Imtiaz Haider, Pakistan Digital Authority Chairperson Dr. Sohail Munir, PVARA Chairman Bilal Bin Saqib and Raast Payments Pakistan CEO Ahson Saeed.
