Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Education has announced new safety rules for students using school bus services as the new academic year begins.
The ministry has issued detailed guidelines to ensure students travel safely to and from schools while using school transportation services across the Kingdom.
The new rules require students to follow proper safety procedures while waiting for, boarding, and travelling on school buses.
Students must wait at designated areas, board and leave buses in an organised manner, remain in their assigned seats, and wear seatbelts during the journey.
Students are also required to follow the instructions of bus drivers and supervisors. They are not allowed to place their heads, hands, or any other body parts outside bus windows or doors. Carrying dangerous items on buses is also prohibited.
The Ministry of Education has instructed students to keep buses clean and respect school transport facilities and other passengers’ belongings. Students must also immediately inform the driver if they board the wrong bus or miss their assigned stop.
The ministry has also provided safety instructions for students while getting off buses. Students must wait until the bus comes to a complete stop before leaving and should not cross directly in front of the vehicle.
The school transport service is available for both male and female students across all three levels of general education.
The annual registration fee is SR200, while students from families receiving social security benefits and students with disabilities are exempt.
The ministry has also instructed parents not to board school buses. Any complaints should be submitted through school transport supervisors or official support channels.
