A remotely controlled car developed by a Pakistani innovator has drawn widespread attention after it crashed into a police vehicle during a test in a high security area of Islamabad.
A video of the incident has gone viral on social media, showing the driverless car moving through the area before suddenly losing control and striking a police vehicle.
Local innovator Ehsan Zafar has developed the technology that allows a conventional car to operate without a person behind the wheel. According to Zafar, the vehicle can travel under remote control from thousands of kilometers away through a mobile application or computer.
Zafar said the vehicle uses internet connectivity to receive commands and carries a 360 degree camera that allows its operator to monitor the surroundings remotely. He also claimed that the car automatically stops if it loses its internet connection.

Zafar has previously showcased the technology through videos showing the vehicle driving without a driver. He also claimed around two years ago that he had developed the world’s first keyboard operated car, allowing users to control a conventional vehicle through a computer keyboard.
The latest incident has put Zafar’s experimental technology in the spotlight, with the viral footage offering a very different outcome from his earlier successful demonstrations.
