National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has assumed charge as Acting President of Pakistan in the absence of both President Asif Ali Zardari and Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gilani.
President Zardari is currently in Austria on an official visit from August 27 to 31, 2026, while the Senate Chairman is also abroad on an official visit.
Under the constitutional arrangements for performing the President’s functions during his absence, Ayaz Sadiq will discharge the responsibilities of Acting President until the President or Senate Chairman returns to Pakistan.
Sadiq will continue performing the functions of Acting President in accordance with the relevant constitutional provisions during this period.
