The District Education Authority (DEA) Rawalpindi has issued show-cause notices to teachers and principals of 160 schools over poor performance in the 2026 9th class examinations, while departmental action has been launched against 40 schools that recorded zero results.
The action follows the latest results announced by the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Rawalpindi, where the overall pass rate stood at 37.56 percent.
A total of 121,739 candidates appeared in the examination, of whom 45,724 passed while 76,015 failed.
DEA Chief Executive Officer Yaseen Khan Baloch said 160 schools recorded pass rates of around 20 percent, while 40 schools failed to produce a single successful candidate.
He said action had been taken against 9th grade in-charges and school principals, while teachers from the 40 zero-result schools had been suspended under the Punjab Employees Efficiency, Discipline and Accountability (PEEDA) Act.
Following the poor results, the authority has also started training sessions for teachers to improve students’ preparation for future 9th grade examinations.
Assistant commissioners have been assigned by the deputy commissioner to monitor the situation in schools, with special attention being given to 9th and 10th grade students.
Baloch said he had visited 10 schools during the previous two days to review teaching standards and check whether students were being taught properly.
He added that teacher training sessions had been started after the beginning of the new academic session to improve education standards in government schools.
