Punjab to Introduce New Curriculum for Classes 1 to 5

Punjab has prepared a new activity- and concept-based curriculum for Classes 1 to 5 as part of major changes to the primary education system.

Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat announced the development and said the new curriculum will move students away from traditional rote learning.

Under the new system, students will learn through activities and practical work. The focus will be on understanding concepts instead of memorizing lessons.

The curriculum has been prepared for students from Class 1 to Class 5. It will form the basis of new textbooks for primary school students across Punjab.

According to the education minister, the books for the 2027 academic session will be printed according to the new curriculum after approval from the Punjab Chief Minister.

The changes are expected to introduce more activity-based lessons in classrooms. Students will be encouraged to understand topics and take part in learning activities rather than depend mainly on memorization.

Rana Sikandar Hayat said the move will end the traditional rote learning system. The new approach will focus on concept-based learning at the primary level.
