The Punjab government will introduce its first commercial policy for universities after approval from the provincial Cabinet, Minister for School and Higher Education Rana Sikandar Hayat has announced.
He said funding for universities will also be increased this year to help higher education institutions address their financial difficulties.
The minister made the remarks while addressing the inauguration ceremony of a water filtration plant at the School of Chemistry, University of the Punjab (PU), on Monday.
Speaking about PU’s financial position, Hayat said the university’s financial stability had improved significantly over the past two years. He claimed its revenue had increased by 1,200% during the period and credited Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali Shah for largely overcoming the university’s financial deficit.
Hayat also praised the launch of welfare initiatives through public-private partnerships, saying such collaborations could benefit students and university staff.
He added that the newly inaugurated water filtration plant would provide students, teachers, and staff with access to clean drinking water.
