Punjab to Add New Subject in School Syllabus

Punjab has decided to introduce a separate 100-mark Global Citizenship subject for students in schools.

The subject is being proposed for inclusion in the curriculum from the next academic year with support from UNICEF.

According to sources, the new subject will educate students about international citizenship, their rights and responsibilities at the global level, and the importance of becoming responsible citizens.

The subject is likely to be introduced for students from Grade 4 to Grade 8.

The Punjab Examination Commission has already started consultations with UNICEF on the introduction of the subject.

Sources said UNICEF may also provide all funding for printing the books and related learning material.

The Education Department said studying Global Citizenship will improve students’ understanding of the wider world and help them better understand their role and responsibilities at the international level.

It added that the new subject will help students meet the demands of global citizenship in a more effective way.
