Development work to provide missing facilities in government schools across Rawalpindi district will be completed by the end of October, according to a senior official of the District Education Authority.
The Punjab government allocated Rs. 938.9 million for these projects but has so far released Rs. 424.8 million. The allocated funds cover several development needs. The government earmarked Rs. 76.7 million for 89 classrooms at 54 schools and Rs. 437.4 million for additional classrooms at 201 schools.
The plan also includes Rs. 39.95 million for drinking water facilities at 47 schools, Rs. 116.2 million for solarization at 126 schools and Rs. 78.11 million for furniture at 242 schools. Another Rs. 142.742 million will fund boundary walls at 164 schools, while Rs. 47.75 million will cover toilet construction at 99 schools.
Rawalpindi district has more than 1,178 government schools, 4,733 private schools and 17 special education centers. The official said the Strategic Management Unit at the School Education Department now handles development work under the provincial government’s new system.
District Education Authority Chief Executive Officer Yaseen Khan Baloch said most development schemes had nearly reached completion and authorities would start new work next year. He also said school enrollment had increased and the government had resolved missing-facility issues at most public schools.
