The Punjab government has set November 30, 2026, as the deadline to install and operationalize 700 water filtration plants across Rawalpindi Division under Phase I of the Chief Minister Punjab Clean Water Program.
The decision was reviewed during a high-level meeting at the Commissioner’s Office in Rawalpindi, chaired by Punjab Housing Minister Bilal Yasin.
Officials briefed the meeting on the availability of clean drinking water across the division, the condition of existing filtration plants, and progress on ongoing projects.
According to the district-wise plan, Attock will receive the highest number of filtration plants at 207, followed by Rawalpindi with 175 and Jhelum with 142. Another 75 plants will be installed in Talagang, 73 in Chakwal, and 28 in Murree.
Yasin directed the concerned departments to ensure that existing filtration plants remain functional while the new facilities are being installed.
He also ordered a comprehensive assessment of machinery, filters, electricity supply, water quality, and other essential facilities at existing plants. Non-functional plants must be identified, along with the reasons for their closure and timelines for their restoration.
The minister stressed that there would be no compromise on the quality of projects related to the provision of clean drinking water and directed officials to address any delays or bottlenecks affecting ongoing work.
Authorities were also instructed to establish a regular maintenance system for the timely replacement and repair of filters and other equipment to ensure the plants remain operational.
In addition, district administrations and relevant departments have been directed to strengthen monitoring, develop a mechanism for resolving public complaints, and conduct regular laboratory testing of water quality.
Officials were also told to maintain proper records of water quality test reports and compile comprehensive data on filtration plants across all districts of Rawalpindi Division.
