Punjab has decided to reward police employees who donate blood with a certificate of appreciation, a cash prize, and one day of leave.
According to an official circular, citizens who donate blood will receive a community certificate from Punjab Safe Cities. The police department has also asked all officers to register for voluntary blood donation.
A one-month registration campaign for blood donors is under way across Punjab. The circular said Punjab Safe Cities has established a virtual blood bank through helpline 15.
Citizens in need of blood for patients can call 15 to get immediate assistance.
Sources said police officers who donate blood will receive a certificate of appreciation, a cash reward of Rs1,000 and one day off.
The awareness campaign will also be expanded to colleges and universities to encourage more people to donate blood.
The circular said ambassadors of the virtual blood bank will be appointed in every district.
Officials said the virtual blood bank has already helped citizens secure blood in more than 72,000 cases so far.
They added that more than 133,000 blood donors have registered with the Punjab Safe Cities virtual blood bank.
Citizens who want to register as blood donors or need blood can call 15 and press 4 for immediate assistance.
