The Punjab government is considering a three-day Basant festival in March 2027, replacing an earlier proposal to hold celebrations over 10 days.
According to government sources, consultations on revised dates have been completed, and an announcement could be made soon. However, authorities have not issued a final confirmation.
The latest proposal would move the festival to shortly after Ramadan, instead of the previously proposed January 29 to February 7 schedule.
Basant’s dates have already undergone several changes. Celebrations were initially announced for March before being moved to late January and early February. The government is now expected to return to a March schedule while shortening the festival to three days.
The repeated revisions have left residents and kite makers uncertain about when celebrations will take place and how long they will last.
While sources indicated that an announcement was imminent, exact dates remain unconfirmed. The proposed March timing and shorter duration should therefore be treated as tentative until the Punjab government formally announces the schedule.
