Punjab Launches Mobile Health Units for Industrial Workers

Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz Sharif has launched a mobile healthcare program to provide medical services to more than 4.6 million industrial workers and their families at workplaces and doorsteps.

The Social Security Mobile Health Program will initially cover Lahore, Kasur, and Sheikhupura before expanding to 12 additional districts by March 2027.

The program includes 65 mobile healthcare units, comprising 10 mobile hospitals, five mobile clinics, a dental hospital, a cardiac unit, 40 motorcycles, and 10 scooters.

These units will provide medical consultations, basic medicines, first aid, diagnostic tests, telemedicine, and health awareness services.

The mobile hospitals will have male and female doctors, radiologists, nurses, laboratory technicians, and X-ray technicians, along with outpatient departments, radiology facilities, and pathology laboratories.

The mobile dental hospital will offer dental treatment, X-rays, intraoral camera systems, and telemedicine services.

As part of the initiative, mobile screening teams will visit 29,845 factories, industrial units, and other establishments across Lahore, Kasur, and Sheikhupura to support the early detection of rheumatic heart disease (RHD).

The program will also screen 54,000 children enrolled in workers’ welfare schools across Punjab for heart diseases. The mobile cardiac unit will provide initial screenings and medical consultations to industrial workers and their families.

All mobile units will be connected to a digital hub at the Punjab Employees Social Security Institution (PESSI) headquarters, allowing authorities to monitor their locations, routes, and field operations in real time.

Speaking at the launch, CM Maryam Nawaz said the program would improve access to healthcare for registered workers and their families while ensuring timely diagnosis and treatment.

She said the provincial government was already providing medical treatment and medicines through 24 social security hospitals, with services also set to be offered through 250 PESSI medical outlets.

The chief minister added that mobile healthcare services would be available at factories, commercial establishments, and industrial units, helping reduce the burden on hospitals.
