Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has launched an electric bus service in seven districts of the province, with 77 modern electric buses beginning operations to improve public transportation and promote environmentally friendly travel.
The newly launched electric buses have been deployed in Gujrat, Narowal, Nankana Sahib, Vehari, Lodhran, Sheikhupura, and Kasur, expanding access to modern public transport beyond Punjab’s major cities.
Officials announced during the inauguration that the fare for the electric bus service has been fixed at Rs. 20, making the service an affordable option for daily commuters.
The buses have been equipped with wheelchair ramps and feature dedicated facilities for senior citizens and people with disabilities to improve accessibility. Officials said the new fleet has been designed to provide passengers with a safe, comfortable, and environmentally friendly mode of transportation while meeting the mobility needs of all segments of society.
The launch is part of the Punjab government’s efforts to modernize the province’s public transport system by introducing electric buses in more districts. The initiative aims to reduce emissions, encourage the use of clean energy in public transportation, and provide residents with reliable and affordable travel facilities.
With the addition of the new fleet, commuters in Gujrat, Narowal, Nankana Sahib, Vehari, Lodhran, Sheikhupura, and Kasur can now use electric buses for their daily travel at a flat fare of Rs. 20.
