The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB), under the Chief Minister’s Initiative, Makerspace Punjab, has signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, the University of Education, Lahore, and the University of the Punjab, Lahore, to strengthen academia-industry collaboration, promote research and IT hardware innovation, and encourage technology-driven product development.
The MoUs were signed by PITB Director General e-Governance Sajid Latif and the respective university heads, including COMSATS Lahore Campus Director Prof. Dr. Qaisar Abbas, University of Education Lahore Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Aqif Anwar Chaudhry, and University of the Punjab Lahore Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali. PITB Director Skills Development Ahmad Islam Syan, representatives from participating Universities, and the Makerspace Punjab team were also present on the occasion.
Through these partnerships, students, researchers, and faculty members will have opportunities to access specialized laboratories, technical mentorship, training, and prototyping facilities.
The collaborations will also promote joint research and innovation initiatives, encourage entrepreneurship, facilitate knowledge exchange, and bridge the gap between academic research and practical, industry-relevant applications.
In this regard, PITB Chairman Faisal Yousaf stated, “Makerspace Punjab is an initiative of the Government of Punjab being implemented by PITB to strengthen the province’s IT hardware innovation ecosystem through product design, rapid prototyping, and the local development of technology products.”
He further said, “These partnerships mark another step towards fostering a culture of innovation, supporting young talent, and advancing indigenous technology development in Punjab.”
