The Punjab government has issued organ transplantation licences to three hospitals, allowing them to continue providing specialised transplant services under the Punjab Human Organ Transplantation Authority (PHOTA).
According to the Punjab Health Department, the Multan Institute of Kidney Diseases and Saleem Memorial Hospital, Lahore, have received three-year registration certificates for kidney transplantation.
The Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute and Research Centre (PKLI), Lahore, has been granted a three-year registration certificate for pancreas transplantation. PKLI has also received separate six-month certificates for liver and kidney transplantation.
Officials said PHOTA issued the licences after inspections and recommendations from its Executive Committee.
Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique said the government is strengthening PHOTA in line with Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s healthcare vision. He said Punjab is taking major steps to expand transplant services and ensure safe, regulated treatment for patients.
PHOTA Director General Professor Aamir Zaman Khan said the authority is being modernised and will continue strict action against illegal organ transplantation in Punjab.
