Punjab Govt to Inject Rs. 30 Billion Into Bank of Punjab

The Bank of Punjab has proposed issuing up to Rs. 30 billion worth of ordinary shares to the Government of Punjab as part of a planned equity subscription, according to a material information disclosure submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange on August 10.

The bank’s board approved the proposal at its 334th emergent meeting held on August 7, 2026. The proposed shares would be issued to the Punjab government through a mechanism other than a rights issue.

The proposed equity subscription will be completed in two tranches. The first tranche, worth up to Rs. 20 billion, is expected to be undertaken by December 31, 2026, while the remaining amount is planned by June 30, 2027.

The proposal is not yet final. The bank said the share issuance will require all applicable corporate and regulatory approvals, including approval from its shareholders through an Extraordinary General Meeting. Approval from the State Bank of Pakistan and the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan will also be required, where applicable.

The issue price of the shares will be determined under the pricing mechanism prescribed by the relevant legal framework and will require approval from the competent authorities. The bank has not disclosed a final issue price at this stage.

The Bank of Punjab said it will inform the Pakistan Stock Exchange about further developments in accordance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
