The Punjab government has stopped women police officers from attending the 63rd International Association of Women Police Conference in Bali despite approval from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
According to officials, the National Police Bureau under the Ministry of Interior had selected officers from Punjab and other provinces for the conference after securing the Prime Minister’s approval.
The US International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) program was expected to provide financial support for their participation.
However, the Punjab government refused to allow its women police officers to attend the conference due to their current duty assignments. Punjab Police has also written to the Ministry of Interior regarding the matter.
The Punjab officers selected for the conference included SSP Amara Athar, SP Zainab Ayub, SP Beenish Fatima, and SP Ayesha Butt.
SP Kainat Azhar from Islamabad Police and SP Resham Jahangir from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police were also among the officers selected to attend.
Permission had also been sought for SP Shehrbano Naqvi to participate in the conference.
