Punjab Govt Plans International-Standard Basant in Lahore

The Punjab government has started preparations for Basant Lahore 2027, with plans to organize the three-day festival as an international-standard event.

Officials reviewed arrangements for the celebrations during a meeting chaired by Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) Additional Director Rao Tasleem Akhtar.

The meeting discussed city-wide decorations and plans to decorate major roads across Lahore ahead of the festival.

Meanwhile, the process of applying for manufacturing licenses for kites and strings has also begun to ensure sufficient stocks are available before Basant 2027.

Representatives of kite flyers said issuing the licenses early would help avoid the shortage of kites and strings that citizens faced this year. Kite flyers’ leader Khawaja Nadeem Wain said manufacturers would need at least four months to produce sufficient stocks.

The representatives also called for safety measures during the festival, particularly for children.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif previously announced that Basant Lahore 2027 will be held from March 12 to 14.

In an online post, she said the dates were finalized following the successful Basant 2026 celebrations and invited people from across Pakistan, overseas Pakistanis, and international visitors to attend the festival.
